The Rookery Bar in Bushwick

Ask me what my favorite brunch spot in Bushwick is and I'll say - without any hesitation - "the Rookery".

I just happened to walk by there after the streetart tour and fell in love with the place as soon as I stepped in.

I don't know what I liked best; the high ceiling and the lights hanging down from it, the steel beams, the green paint on the walls, the flower wallpaper around the booths, the huge horseshoe shaped bar or the mosaic tiles on the floor. I guess it was the combination.

The inside has an industrial feel and a British and West Indian taste. Literally. Just check out their menu.

If you don't want to sit at the bar, just seat yourself in one of the booths.

My "egg Sammy" (breakfast) sandwich was actually more than enough, but the Rookery fries - thick cut with Rosemary seasoning - sounded so appealing that I just had to try (and finish) them. Delicious!

Go check it out yourself. Find the Rookery at 425 Troutman Street. Between Wyckoff and St Nicholas Avenue and just one block from the Jefferson L trainstation. I citibiked there from the Pod Brooklyn Hotel.

More Bushwick hotspots?

Actually, I must admit that the time I spent in Bushwick was all about the Bushwick streetart tour. Which I kicked off at the Swallow Cafe. And then there's also the House of Yes, where the Deep House Yoga classes events are organised. The most famous - and all time favorite of many - restaurant in Bushwick is probably Roberta's. A must for pizza lovers!
