New York City Trippers

International Women's Day

08 Mar 2018 by Daphne

In a New York state of mind - and the day before International Women's Day - I was looking through the pictures on my Iphone for the most recent pictures of women in New York. Here's a small collection.

In the company of women - book by Grace Bonney

Newyorkcitytripper Esther really wanted to buy this book when she saw it at the outpost of The Strand Bookstore on Fifth Avenue in the Flatiron District. This part is actually called "The Ladies Mile". How suitable. Shopping is great in this part of town and especially in this store which shares its - not very big but very stylish and sophisticated - space with Toby's Estate and Club Monaco's Fifth Avenue Flagship store. What does "In the company of women by Grace Bonney" have to do with New York? Well, it's a New York Times bestseller. And Grace Bonney lives in New York. The reviews are raving. Read more about the book here and maybe get it for yourself!

Power to the she at Athleta Fifth Avenue

Also on "The Ladies Mile" is the Athleta store. We love this place. It was started by women athletes who love the great outdoors and found it hard to find apparel that fit right and worked for women’s bodies and needs. Shop at Athleta for your entire active lifestyle, from work to workout to weekend and look super stylish while you're running around or doing downward facing dogs.

Here's one of my favorite and typical New York City icons. Lady Liberty. I've seen her from many sides throughout the years. This was taken from the Staten Island Ferry on our way back from the Five Boro Bike Ride.

And here's the view from Liberty State Park on New Jersey. We took the NY Waterway ferry across from Brookfield Place/Battery Park, got some bikes and biked around for a couple of hours. Fun to do!

In the basement in Macy's on Herald Square.

Get more great views on the Statue of Liberty when you go bikeriding. Take the Citibike to Battery Park or just follow the bikepath from Dumbo to Red Hook. You'll have a great time for sure! You can get up close with a tour to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. More info on that can be found here. Or splurge and take a helicopter tour.

Fearless Girl statue with Asian tourists

The Fearless Girl is celebrating her first birthday this year. The loveable little sculpture (50 inches tall) has been facing the Charging Bull near Wall Street the day before the 2017 International Women's day.

Fearless Girl facing the Wall Street Bull

Rumour has it that the Fearless Girl will be moved to another spot in New York very soon.

And finally the beautiful Audrey Hepburn mural on Mulberry Street. It is one of my most favorite pieces of streetart in New York City. I saw it on my streetart run through the Lower East Side.
