New York City Trippers

Katz's deli

There's nothing more New York than Katz's! Well, I'm not so sure about that but it sure is a cool place. Everybody over 40 surely can remember the "ohohoh" scene in "When Harry met Sally". That was shot at Katz's. There's even a sign above the table to commemorate it. I sat there, not knowing, and wondered why people kept looking in my direction.

I had the Pastrami sandwich. Because that's what Katz's is famous for. I can see why; it was good! And a lot. Way too much. So here's a hint: if you go to Katz's and you're gonna have a sandwich you might want to consider sharing it with the person you are with. And hold on to the ticket you get when you enter the place. It's another thing that Katz's is known for. Everything you order is written on the ticket and when you leave you hand that to the cashier. If you can't show your ticket you get a $ 50 penalty.

The Village Voice has a video on their website on how to order at Katz's. Pretty cool because you get to take a look inside. Check it out here.

Katz's Delicatessen is in the Lower East Side, at 205 Houston Street. Practically next to the Mercury Lounge and around the corner of the Tenement Museum. Which is a good place to visit also! Another Katz's deli will be opening in the Dekalb Market in Brooklyn sometime soon. I can't wait to check that out!
