Grand Central Terminal

Known as one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world. Especially the main terminal (almost 50 meters high and 150 meters long) with the beautiful painted ceiling is impressive, as is the huge American Flag in the middle of it all. The floors and chique double stairways are made of marble. Yeah, I was definitely impressed. Be sure to also check the clock with its 4 displays hanging over the information point. All sides are made out of opal and its value is estimated at some 15 million dollars. Grand Central Station has over 40 platforms and is seen as one of the largest train stations in the world with more than 750.000 travelers passing by daily.

President Franklin Roosevelt had access to a secret underground platform by taking an elevator down from the Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Another public "secret" is the whispering gallery, located at the lower lever near the restaurants and in front of the Oyster Bar & Restaurant. If you and your travelcompanion stand at diagonal corners of the arches (facing the corner), the farthest apart you can be, and whisper softly, you'll be able to hear each other, as clearly as if you were whispering into each other's ears. Very special! Fun with kids but apparently many marriage proposals have been made here ...
