There are some great places where you never can go wrong. Be eatertained at Buddakan in Meatpacking District, close to Chelsea Market. The food is great and so is the atmosphere. The setting is clubbish; somehow you don't feel like you're "just" going out for dinner. Fusion Asian cuisine with Japanese influences displayed like pieces of art. Beautifully presented and mostly meant to share with the people you are with so you can taste everything.
Carrie & Big had their rehearsal dinner at Buddakan in Sex and the City: The Movie. There's a mainroom with high ceilings and larger than huge chandeliers. Here it's all about the scene and being seen. The back room offers more peace and quiet. The staff is very friendly and take their time to tell you all about the menu in a mouthwatering way. The atmosphere is trendy, warm and “clean”. The dresscode - which I got from their website - is downtown chic, fun and hip.
